Rougham 2007 Rally Report

Wings Wheels and Steam Rally 2007

This Year the Engines were once again in the field at the side of the main Rally Field however the engines faced the main field with exhibitors behind which was a much better orientation and Dale Walker acted as Steward.

I still think that a number of members of the public did not find us but it was better than previous years.

Having said that it is a good event for the public with lots to see but the weather was wet on Saturday and quite cold and windy on Sunday so I suspect numbers were down.

Stalls were, in my opinion well down on last year with very few stalls to suit the Ladies.

The aerobatic displays were once again superb including a great display by Nigel Wilson in the Yak and a stunning performance by Denny Dobson in the Extra 300 culminating on Sunday with a successful World record attempt by Denny in cutting the tapes held on poles by 14 pairs of unsuspecting members of the public........

Again, there was something for everyone from a large Military presence, Steam engines, Stationary Engines, Tractors and the usual Classic Cars and Bikes.

An Amanco 2.25hp "Hired Man" driving a Lister H3 Pump owned by Colin Cracknell from Gt Henney. Another Hired Man, this is from 1920 owned by G Pearson from Lincs. An unusual Engine is this 1924 1.5hp Capel model XX owned by C Smith from Wimblington Cambs. A lovely little American 1.5hp Economy.

A very nice 1926 3hp International M Petrol/Paraffin engine driving a 1926 Climax 2 Deep Well Pump owned by Graham and Brian Turner. A 1.5hp Lister D driving a Godwin Pump owned by John Southall from Willlisham. A nice outfit is this 1.5hp Lister D driving a Lister Domestic Pump owned by 15 year old Mark Wilden. A self propelled, American "Onan" generator normally used to power field communications equipment.

An unusual Tank Cooled Ruston and Hornsby 2.25hp Model PT. A little Stuart R3MC driving a Stuart Turner Pump. This is a Buick Staff Car which was used in the film "Pearl Harbour". Tanks and Self Propelled guns were roaring around at the back of the Rally Field giving rides to members of the public.

A few of the Military Jeeps on display And a Military Land Rover in Desert Camouflage. This Riley was one of many Classic cars on display, this is owned by Barry Yallop from Ipswich. And a JBA Falcon Kit car owned by Tony Powell from Woodbridge.
