A bit of information about Me, My Family and my Work

I have been married to Jan since 1971 and have a Son, Mark who lives locally with his girlfriend. We live in Ipswich Suffolk.

I have my roots in the Motor Trade, I underwent a 5 Year apprentiship as a Motor Mechanic at a local Garage named Lock and Stagg which was taken over by the Henlys group, this finished in 1969.

I then worked at a number of Garages in the area, including a spell as a tester at Trident cars Ltd. a small manufacturer of fibreglass sports cars. I then joined the local Co-op garage group where I worked for a number of years as a mechanic, tester, foreman, and finally Service Manager.

I found however that I enjoyed working on cars more than a middle managers role, so decided to go self employed working from home as a mechanic.

I did this for a number of years, but decided when I got to about 43 yrs. old that maybe I was getting a bit long in the tooth for humping gearboxes out on my chest etc. and so I decided that my interest in computers could become a source of income, and Severn Computer Services was born. I built, sold and supported bespoke computers for home and business.

My love of cars led me in the 1980s to build a replica of a Lamborghini Countach which took around two years to complete. It had a 5.7 litre Chevrolet V8 married to a Porsche transaxle with the diff turned round, an interesting project to say the least, (must get around to adding some pictures).

My business in 1998 became Severn Computer Services Ltd. to allow me to contract myself to Companies such as BT. I have been contracted to BT since then firstly as a delivery/support engineer and lately as a broadband deployment manager. This means that I no longer have the time to build and sell Computers, apart from the odd one or two for friends.

As I no longer had anything mechanical to amuse myself I started restoring old Stationary engines which, like everything else, kinda escalated.......
